Smartthings Bypass of zones

Postby smurfgun » Fri Aug 11, 2017 11:38 pm

Hi all,

I've just got this all setup for a DSC system and working with smartthings. It all looks good... However, I would love to be able to bypass zones. I see the zones that are faulted (red dots). It'll be neat if I can tap on the red dots and it will send a bypass command. Has this been done or is there various code snippets that you can send me to help me implement such a feature?

Thanks,

Ray

This has not been done, I will put it on the list to explore options with, thanks

Thanks. I implemented something simple that would send the appropriate key sequence to the panel... So I can at least bypass now. With the said, I am missing a couple bits of information.

1. Whether the system is ready to arm? For example, if some zones are at fault, the system is not ready to arm. A red info tile somewhere would be good. Once I bypass the faulting zones, this tile can show green.

2. I don't have bypass information. I can assume at some point that no zones are bypassed and anything I bypass are the only zones bypassed. But I can lose track of the zones I've bypassed. It would be good to retrieve the bypassed zones to smartthings.

Thanks for your time,

SmartThings implementation was not intended to fully control your alarm. It was intended for home automation purposes. Full control is allowed by the virtual keypad.

Hi Kevin,

Yes, I agree I ultimately do not need to reproduce the full capabilities of the keypad into smartthings. However, I think bypassing a zone is a functionality that is needed for home automation. Let's say I leave the house but left a window open. I would still hope I can still arm the alarm and protect all other zones in the home. For me, I simply allow a particular zone to be open so I can leave a window open. If automation is key, maybe we should implement an autobypass... For example, if I leave the home and left a window open, alarmdecoder will automatically bypass that zone and arm the alarm.

I'm surprised no one else have asked for it?

Thanks!

For security reasons, would prefer user intervention to bypass a zone. Will look into implementing something for this, but again the virtual keypad serves this purpose.

Thanks for the consideration. Btw, just to be clear. The virtual keypad can only be accessed on the local network.. yes?

Unless you utilize the port forwarding feature, it is only available on your local network. SmartThings accesses it via your local network. If somebody were to get ahold of your smartthings cloud info, there is a vector I suppose...

Looks good.

Have not looked at their smartthings implementation. I do know our device supports a swath of features that they don't. As far as smartthings ? Not really our focus. We just happen to support it, and open sourced the project for others to work on. We will take suggestions and implement them as we have time.
