Network Appliance and SmartThings integration

Postby jasonsf » Sun Oct 16, 2016 3:13 pm

Hi. Potential customer here. I have a few questions before I purchase the network appliance.
1) Does the Web App run on the integrated RaspberryPi?
2) Can the network appliance connect via wifi rather than ethernet (assuming additional purchase of usb-wifi adapter)?
3) There is mention on the GitHub repo page (https://github.com/nutechsoftware/alarm ... martthings) of a z-wave version of the product in the future. How soon is that anticipated and would that remove the ethernet requirement for connectivity?

Also, the network appliance shows out of stock. Is it expected to be available again soon?

Thanks! Looking forward to implementing this solution!

Hi,

The WebApp runs on the Raspberry Pi, yes.
Yes, it can connect via wifi, and the appliance we ship comes with wifi already (Pi 3) - but we do not configure it or provide a way to configure it - that is up to you and is outside of recommended configuration.
No ETA, but theoretically yes it would remove the requirement for ethernet

We are expecting them in stock early this week

Thanks, Kevin. Would the z-wave version fix the 1 minute refresh rate that the current version has? Or is that more dependant on other factors? You mentioned a "push" version that would also get around the slow refresh. Is that something you are expecting to be available sooner rather than later?

We are a small shop so I cannot give any ETA on anything, I can only tell you that it is in our list to take care of. The push events would get rid of the slowness. Z-wave? Don't know, I would assume so. But I can't tell you how far either of those projects are from fruition. At this point, you should pretend that Z-Wave version doesn't exist.

Thanks a lot for your help. I'll plan on getting the Network Appliance when it is available. Now all I have to do is get the code for the Vista-20P system I inherited when I bought my house. Alarm company wants to charge $90 service fee to come out and reset it for me.

Is it *98 locked out? If not, you can get the code pretty easy yourself by powering down (including disconnecting the battery) then within 30seconds of powering up hold down the * and # keys, it will put you in programming mode - then you just get the value of field 20, and that is your installer code.

Just FYI, I was able to get in to the programming mode and retrieve the installer code. Looking forward to hooking up the network appliance when they are back in stock!

Thanks again-

I think I misunderstood the product listing for the Network Appliance. It says it comes with a power adapter but not a DC power cord. That means that I'll need an AC outlet available if I didn't purchase the extra power cord? I was thinking about it backwards and thought it could be powered by the alarm board by default and I would need to buy an additional power cord for AC.

That might be an issue. Hmm. Maybe I can thread the AC cable through the wall along with the power cord for the alarm. How long is the power cable that comes with the device?

Thanks,
Jason
