Programming the Vista 128BP for the AD2Pi zone expander

Postby scbrews » Fri Jul 21, 2017 6:33 pm

I enabled the zone expander (1) in the setup of my AD2Pi, but I have questions about programming the panel to accommodate the functionality.
Primarily, what kind of zone expander does it emulate?
I think I read somewhere that the zone expander gives me 8 additional zones?

thanks in advance

I don't recall off the top of my head, but I think for the 128 you would want to use expander 3 or 4, not 100% sure I will have to ask in the office on Monday.

Thanks for the reply Kevin, I'd appreciate if you could follow up.

the input types for zone programming for the 128 are:
00 = not used
01 = hardwired
02 = RF motion (RM type)
03 = supervised RF transmitter (RF type)
04 = unsupervised RF transmitter (UR type)
05 = RF button-type transmitter (BR type)
06 = serial number polling loop device (SL type) 07 = DIP switch-type polling loop device
08 = right loop of DIP switch type device
09 = keypad input (code + #73)
10 = PassPoint ACS input
11 = VistaKey Door Status Monitor (DM)
12 = VistaKey Request to Exit (RE)
13 = VistaKey General Purpose (GP)

Some of these input types (RF in particular) will prompt you for a Input serial as shown :
INPUT S/N: L A XXX-XXXX
So I assumed it WASN'T 03 or 04 .

Thanks

Sorry I can't help you program your alarm, I can only help you with the alarmdecoder itself. I am happy to point you to programming manuals for the 128 if you would like.

The 128 panels do not support zone expanders in a traditional sense. These panels use the VPLEX bus - to utilize this you would need special firmware and a 2nd alarmdecoder to monitor both busses.

What if I install a 5881 RF Receiver ? Is the AD2Pi zone expansion emulation compatible with the zones provided by a 5881 RF Receiver?

I should've mentioned the earlier....what I want to do is use some of the open/close sensors in my Indigo Home automation system (with the AD2USB plugin) as virtual zones for the Vista 128. This should be possible (without buying another alarm decoder) .

Any guidance would be appreciated.
thanks

As far as I am aware, the Vista 128's only support zone expanders over the VPLEX Bus. This solution you are looking for as far as I am aware is not possible with your particular panel without tapping into the VPLEX bus. The 128 does not support a standard 4219
Wired Zone Expander.

If you want to add RFX to your panel and monitor the RFX that is possible, just add the radio if you don't have it (a lot of times these are in existing keypads already) and add some RF type zones with their serial numbers.

In all of these instances, you will NOT be emulating a zone expander, because you cannot on a 128.

Hey yall,
Just to close the loop on this , I did some reasearch, and I believe the AD2Pi is emulating a 4219/4229 zone expander. The 4219 and 4229 are the only compatible expanders for Vista 20P, and those expanders are not compatible with the Vista 128, so as Kevin concluded, this highly useful feature the device is not possible on the Vista 128.
