Smartthings with AD2PI Network appliance

Postby roadrnnr1 » Tue Oct 27, 2015 10:43 am

First post :)

I recently picked up a AD2PI Network Appliance with the hopes of connecting it to my Smartthings hub. I have it all hooked up and can access the alarm from a web browser but I'm not sure how to integrate it with smartthings. Do I need another piece? It seems like all I would need is a smartapp to interface with the Raspberry Pi in order to add the things to my dashboard, but I'm unclear on how that's done. Everything I've read seems to be for the USB version.

Someone must have done this somewhere?

Thanks!

The SmartThings AD2 script would need to be able to connect to a socket on the network appliance to read the messages, or if you have the arduino hooked to the pi, you can send messages to the arduino with a python script and perhaps have it work that way - I am unsure of how smartthings works.

We discussed this at length today, and will be developing an API that smart things hub can talk directly to on the network appliance to retrieve alarm state etc.

When it is released, your web application will let you know there is an update available and you can update through the web interface.

The current instructions I have found for the ad2pi require an ad2pi (not network appliance) and an arduino with a thing shield. We are hoping to eliminate the need for the arduino and just let the hub talk directly to the network appliance if all goes as planned.

Oh that would be awesome. What kind of timeline would there be on something like that?

Sorry, couldn't say at this time - it is the next "big project" on the stack, though.

Web RESTful API almost done, we are now in the process of acquiring a SmartThings hub to develop an official AlarmDecoder device type for it.

Thanks for all the hard work here, I know the ST community appreciates it!

Any updates by chance?

Hey! So we just got the ST hub and some zwave switches and sensors in on Thursday - Scott started playing around with it and looking at device types - I can't give any ETA, but the process is definitely under way.

Again, this would be an ST device type that connects to the AlarmDecoder Network Appliance Web API only - if you are not running this configuration (Web API almost finished and ready for release), then this specific device type is not for you.

If you are running our AlarmDecoder WebApp then this will work with ST when it is ready. We will release the Web API likely before the ST device as it is a prerequisite - and the software will prompt you to update automatically when it is ready. Then we will make available the ST side of things when it's ready.

Awesome news! Can't wait to try it out.

I have a SmartThings Hub (the latest updated version) and AD2PI.

If you need feedback or testers I'll definitely volunteer!
