Raspian custom image versus docker image

I'm running the raspian image that came with my appliance when I ordered it. Do you recommend switching to the docker image? If so, what is the best way to transition? Do I need to install a fresh image without the custom settings you shipped to me or can I simply run the docker install script and let it do all the configuration?
