[Solved] Can I use AD2USB to program new panel?

Postby Incamnito » Fri Jan 03, 2014 7:42 pm

I just upgraded my old Vista 40 system to a Vista 20P + Tuxedo keypad. Unfortunately, it looks like I need a 6160 keypad to program the unit. Can I just use the AD2USB to do the full programming, and then use the Tuxedo to operate the system? I don't really need the numeric keypad, so I'd rather use the AD2USB for programming if it's possible. Thanks.

Yes. The AD2USB AlarmDecoder is an excellent panel programming tool.

Just install the free Keypad software onto a Windows, Mac or Linux computer you will have full access to programming features including cursor support needed for programming in menu modes. As a bonus with the logging features built into the Keypad it is very easy to see what fields you were editing and log every change you make to a text file for later review.

We also just finished a new Downloader plugin that can automatically download your 20P programming fields to a text file.

Just make sure to assign the AD2USB to address 16 initially in the AD2USB configuration so you don't have to tell the panel it exists.

I bought the AD2USB and connected it to my Vista20P and got communication going.
I also just bought the "downloader" hoping to use it to program my panel, but I cannot figure out how to actually run it. It only comes with a .dll file. I'm on OS X.
Please help. Thanks.

It will work on OSX but its much more complex at this time as our OSX bundle is not running the latest version and does not easily allow adding the DLL's. The DLL is a C# dll that will work on OSX using MONO.

What needs to happen is the dll needs to be placed into your "modules" folder under your AlarmDecoder keypad install directory and then restart the AlarmDecoder Keypad application.

Hi Sean,
So I have the following directory structure:

/desktop/ad2usbgui-MacOS_2.0.6/ad2usbgui
/desktop/ad2usbgui-MacOS_2.0.6/modules/Downloader.dll

But when I quite and restarted the ad2usbgui app, nothing changed. I still don't see the Downloader. In the "Put You Custom Module Here" tab, I still only see the default "Click 0 Me"
Thanks.

I suspect if you look at the Log view you will see it failed to load the module Can you confirm the message.

You need to look inside the app to find the path Sean has referred to. So, Right-(Control)-Click ad2usbgui.app and then select "Show Package Contents." Then drill down as Sean has described.

Ya its the wrong folder. The MAC bundle is confusing to me as well it has shadow folders etc. Someplace inside if you can find the mystuff.dll and what ever folder it is in then that should be where it goes. berkinet is the best resource we have for the OSX stuff he is the one who put a tun of time into building the OSX package. We will need his help at this point. Lets let him chime in when he sees this thread.

I see 2 problems.
1. the version for OSX needs to be updated to 2.8 in order to use the latest dll.
2. the place that dll's are put into the package needs to be clerified and docs updated.

Give us a few days to figure this out sorry for the delay but this is one I know needs to be worked on. If you happen to have a windows box handy that will work but I realize its not you preferred solution but if needed immediatly maybe running a windows VM?
